Sponsor.st

Ghost sponsorship: sell sponsor spots on Ghost

Short answer

Add your keyed Sponsor.st script in Settings → Code injection → Site footer, then save and verify the install. Mark a placement on a live web page and set its monthly price. The script runs on your Ghost website, including posts that readers open there; it does not insert sponsors into newsletter emails.

Your key is filled in once you add your site.

Add Sponsor.st to Ghost

  1. Get your snippet. Create a free account, add your site and copy the tag from the site's page; your key is filled in.

  2. Paste it. Open Settings → Code injection → Site footer. Paste the snippet and save.

    <script src="https://cdn.sponsor.st/s.js" data-site="YOUR_KEY" async></script>

  3. Click Check under "Check the install" on your site's page in the dashboard (on first setup it's at the bottom of the install card). Added it through a tag manager? Use Check DNS (a TXT record) or Check file instead.

  4. Mark a spot. Open the editor on your live page, click where a sponsor goes, pick a format (Banner, Card, Inline mention, Logo strip or Top bar) and set a monthly price.

  5. Connect Stripe or Dodo, then share your booking page or add the "Advertise on {domain}" link to your footer.

Ghost notes

Themes. Code injection works with Casper, Source and other themes because Ghost adds it to every page through the {{ghost_foot}} helper in default.hbs. A custom theme that removed {{ghost_foot}} won't load the script; put the helper back before </body>.

Ghost(Pro) and self-hosted. Code injection is in the admin of both. Ghost's pricing page doesn't mention Code injection; it lists custom integrations and custom themes on Publisher ($29/month, billed yearly) and higher, not on Starter ($18/month). On a self-hosted Ghost behind a CDN or Nginx cache, purge the cache after saving.

Newsletters. The script runs on your website, not inside the emails Ghost sends. Spots earn from readers who open posts on the web.

Ghost's own Stripe connection. Ghost uses Stripe for paid memberships. Sponsor.st connects to your Stripe or Dodo account on its own, so sponsor payments sit apart from member payments in your reports.

If Check can't find the script

  • Your theme has no {{ghost_foot}}. Code injection never reaches the page; put the helper back before </body> in default.hbs.
  • A cache in front of a self-hosted Ghost. Purge the CDN or Nginx cache after saving.
  • Checking a different address. Check the domain readers use, not the admin URL.

Removing it

Wait until running bookings have ended before deleting the tag. Removing it takes the script and its spots off your pages. If your site gets visits every day, a running booking logs downtime from the last time the script was seen; at the booking's end, those days become a refund due that you pay from your own Stripe or Dodo account. Pulling a booking early also leaves a refund due for its unused days.
