Sponsor.st

Shopify ads: sell sponsor spots on Shopify

Short answer

Add your keyed Sponsor.st script before </body> in the published theme's layout/theme.liquid, under Online Store → Themes → ⋯ → Edit code. Save, verify your live storefront and mark a placement on a content page. Password protection blocks verification; the script does not run on checkout.

Your key is filled in once you add your site.

Add Sponsor.st to Shopify

  1. Get your snippet. Create a free account, add your site and copy the tag from the site's page; your key is filled in.

  2. Paste it. Open Online Store → Themes → ⋯ → Edit code, then layout/theme.liquid. Paste the snippet just before </body> and save.

    <script src="https://cdn.sponsor.st/s.js" data-site="YOUR_KEY" async></script>

  3. Click Check under "Check the install" on your site's page in the dashboard (on first setup it's at the bottom of the install card). Added it through a tag manager? Use Check DNS (a TXT record) or Check file instead.

  4. Mark a spot. Open the editor on your live page, click where a sponsor goes, pick a format (Banner, Card, Inline mention, Logo strip or Top bar) and set a monthly price.

  5. Connect Stripe or Dodo, then share your booking page or add the "Advertise on {domain}" link to your footer.

Shopify notes

Theme changes. The edit belongs to that theme. If you switch themes or install a newer version of yours, paste the snippet into the new theme's theme.liquid again.

Password-protected stores. While the storefront has a password, verification can't reach your pages. Verify after you remove the password.

Checkout. The script doesn't run on Shopify's checkout, and spots don't belong there. Put them on content, blog and collection pages.

Who it suits. Stores with a blog, buying guides or a loyal niche audience can sell a spot to a brand whose products complement theirs. A store without regular readers may find little demand.

If Check can't find the script

  • The store has a password. Check can't reach your pages; remove the password first.
  • You edited a theme that isn't live. Paste the snippet into the published theme's theme.liquid.
  • You switched or updated the theme. Paste the snippet into the new theme again.

Removing it

Wait until running bookings have ended before deleting the tag. Removing it takes the script and its spots off your pages. If your site gets visits every day, a running booking logs downtime from the last time the script was seen; at the booking's end, those days become a refund due that you pay from your own Stripe or Dodo account. Pulling a booking early also leaves a refund due for its unused days.

FAQ

Is there an app instead of editing code? Pasting one line into theme.liquid is the simplest way to put the script on every page, and it's just as easy to remove.

Does it show on every product page? Only where you mark it. A spot marked on one product page appears on products that share that template.

Your first sponsor spot is one line away.
